July 4, Louisiana's residents saw experience a significant shift in gun ownership rights, as the state enacted a “permitless” concealed carry law. This new regulation, eliminated the longstanding requirement for law-abiding citizens to obtain a permit to carry a concealed handgun.

However, under the new legislation signed by lawmakers and Governor Jeff Landry in February, individuals as young as 18 are now be permitted to conceal and carry a handgun without needing a permit.

Despite the relaxed regulations, there are still numerous restrictions in place regarding where concealed handguns can be carried. Firearms will remain prohibited in certain locations, which include:
- Any building where firearms are banned by state or federal law, such as law enforcement facilities, courthouses, polling places, and municipal or state buildings.
- School zones.
- Bars (though carrying in restaurants that serve alcohol is permitted).
- Private residences, where the owner's consent is necessary.
Exemptions to the New Rules

- Those under the influence of drugs or with a blood alcohol content exceeding .05.
- Felons or individuals legally barred from firearm ownership by a judge.
